Sham and the lads

A nice wee blog and photos by Bob Singer about this lovely bunch that we call “Sham & The Lads” who lifted the rafters in Kilshanny House on Friday night.

I was planning a quiet Friday night in front of the fire. That was until I got a text from Mary Butler that there was music that night at Kilshanny House. Of course I had to go but it wasn’t quite what I expected. About 20 lads from all over Ireland gather twice a year to play music and enjoy each other’s company. They are all involved in engineering businesses and only meet on these weekends in Kilshanny and at Gus O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin. And this is the 42nd time they have done it! There were fiddles, banjos, pipes, mandolins and lots of guitars. But there were mainly songs. From everywhere. Dylan, The Eagles, Johnny Cash, Billy Joel, Steve Earle and the odd bit of trad too. And a few locals joined in. Fair play to Doutsen and Una for helping to redress the gender imbalance! A great night out……..
