Kate Purcell and the Songbirds
Tuesday 1st October 2013, 8pm
Clare’s own Kate Purcell, The Burns Sisters and Bobby Sweet were the opening act of the Autumn in Kilshanny House concert series. Kate and the Burns Sisters are not only songwriters but also collectors of songs they love. Joining them is singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso Bobby Sweet. Bobby and the Burns Sisters teamed up with others to accompany Arlo Guthrie on some tours as his band.
All four transported everybody listening to them that night into a magical world of music. A night not easily forgotten!
Paul O’Driscoll Jazz Trio
Friday the 11th October 2013, 8pm
Paul O’Driscoll is one of the leading exponents of the double bass in Ireland. This Friday, Paul along with Polish duo Marcin Plaza on piano and Szymon Misniak on drums will bring the era of jazz swing and Be Bop to life right here in Kilshanny!
What is Bebop you might ask? “Bebop or bop: a style of jazz characterised by fast tempo, instrumental virtuosity, and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and melody developed in the early and mid-1940s.”
A promising explanation of what is to come to Kilshanny House this Friday – the Paul O’Driscoll Jazz Trio are on their way!
Friday 18th October 2013, 8pm
Ace Minsky and The Wireless Operators are a versatile Jazz, Swing, Rock and Pop band who will make this evening a totally unforgettable experience. The 5 piece band comes from all over the world (a miniature United Nations, really), and together they have close to 140 years of music experience between them!
Jaskane Café Trio
25 October 2013, 8pm
The Jaskane Café Trio showcases a unique blend of violin, oboe and guitar, while playing an eclectic mix of musical genres and evoking sounds of international café culture.
Violinist Karen Kelly’s influences span from the simplicity of baroque string music to modern contemporary scores. Her performances include orchestral works, chamber music and lead violin for the much loved musicals. A former violin teacher, Karen has now established a career as a music therapist. Bringing her classical roots to the group, she shows a particular propensity for cafe style playing.
Etain McCooey has developed a uniquely ‘Irish’ oboe style by combining her classical oboe training with her knowledge of Irish whistle style and technique. She plays with The Clare Memory Orchestra, works as a session musician countrywide and was commissioned to compose music for the Hidden History TV series. She displays the versatility of the oboe through the Jaskane Café Trio’s repertoire.
Jason Noone is a guitarist and producer with a background in rock, blues and improvisation. He has performed throughout the country, teaches guitar skills and is a qualified music therapist. His sound complements the Trio’s melodic and harmonic tapestry while also diversifying with intricate solos and riffs. His guitar style provides the rhythmic underpinning of the Jaskane Café Trio’s distinctive sound.
