Winter in Kilshanny – Fashion & Fun on Fiver Friday

Winter in Kilshanny got off to a great start with the Fashion & Fun Event with Tess Purcell from Style’n Mind giving us an insightful talk about image, body shapes, and how to dress the obligatory little black number up and down in many creative ways!

After Tess’ very illuminating talk, all the ladies had the chance of browsing the upstairs Kilshanny City Shopping Centre. Eight local shops from Clare and Kinvara had set up shop in the quaint first floor of Kilshanny House – an ideal venue for this kind of pop-up stalls!

The businesses gathered were Mix Pixie offering customisable CD’s, Poetry in Motion with their fantastic vintage and designer clothes, Molly’s handmade jewellery and Azz Bazz, an online shop run by a Clare woman. Captain Tortue, Olive Vintage Style from Ennis and Amelia C from Kinvara offered a great variety of unusual and beautiful clothes. We even had milliner Sinéad Madden with us who added further glamour with her amazing creations.

Kilshanny House was filled to the rafters with beautifully dressed ladies – and ladies only. This must have been a first for our dignified house!

We can honestly say that it was a great night for all the girls who enjoyed a glass of wine with their friends and a spot of retail therapy in Kilshanny as much as they would have had in Paris!

Autumn @ Kilshanny House final – Jaskane Cafe Trio

Friday 25th October 2013

The Jaskane Café Trio showcases a unique blend of violin, oboe and guitar, while playing an eclectic mix of musical genres and evoking sounds of international café culture.
Violinist Karen Kelly’s influences span from the simplicity of baroque string music to modern contemporary scores. Her performances include orchestral works, chamber music and lead violin for the much loved musicals. A former violin teacher, Karen has now established a career as a music therapist. Bringing her classical roots to the group, she shows a particular propensity for cafe style playing.
Etain McCooey has developed a uniquely ‘Irish’ oboe style by combining her classical oboe training with her knowledge of Irish whistle style and technique. She plays with The Clare Memory Orchestra, works as a session musician countrywide and was commissioned to compose music for the Hidden History TV series. She displays the versatility of the oboe through the Jaskane Café Trio’s repertoire.
Jason Noone is a guitarist and producer with a background in rock, blues and improvisation. He has performed throughout the country, teaches guitar skills and is a qualified music therapist. His sound complements the Trio’s melodic and harmonic tapestry while also diversifying with intricate solos and riffs. His guitar style provides the rhythmic underpinning of the Jaskane Café Trio’s distinctive sound.
Fancy a listen to them?

Autumn @ Kilshanny House continued – Ace Minsky Gallery

Friday 18th October 2013
Ace Minsky and The Wireless Operators are a versatile Jazz, Swing, Rock and Pop band who made this evening a totally unforgettable experience. The 5 piece band comes from all over the world (a miniature United Nations, really), and together they have close to 140 years of music experience between them!

They got everybody smiling, swaying and humming to the music. Some couples found themselves on the dance floor adding visual to audible entertainment for the rest of the crowd!

Paul O’Driscoll Jazz Trio at Kilshanny House

Friday the 11th October 2013
Paul O’Driscoll is one of the leading exponents of the double bass in Ireland. This Friday,  Paul along with Polish duo Marcin Plaza on piano and Szymon Misniak on drums will bring the era of jazz swing and Bebop to life right here in Kilshanny!

What is Bebop you might ask?  “Bebop or bop: a style of jazz characterised by fast tempo, instrumental virtuosity, and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and melody developed in the early and mid-1940s.”

A great night was had by all 30’s and 40’s jazz lovers who came to Kilshanny House to not only listen to the trio’s brilliant and polished performance, but also to nibble on lovely Burren Béilíní and to support the services provided by Ennistymon Hospital.

 Kate Purcell and the Songbirds

Tuesday 1st October 2013, 8pm

Clare’s own Kate Purcell, The Burns Sisters and Bobby Sweet were the opening act of the Autumn in Kilshanny House concert series. Kate and the Burns Sisters are not only songwriters but also collectors of songs they love. Joining them is singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso Bobby Sweet. Bobby and the Burns Sisters teamed up with others to accompany Arlo Guthrie on some tours as his band.

All four transported everybody listening to them that night into a magical world of music. A night not easily forgotten!
